1839 Bagdad: Thomas Peters dies

BAGDAD 1839

 Thomas Peters died on 21st July 1839. He was 64 years old.  He was buried in the cemetery at the rear of  St Marks (later St Mary’s) Anglican Church at Green Ponds (now Kempton). His grave is marked by an altar tombstone and it is located close to the grave of his daughter Anne Peters. She was buried in 1830 and her grave is marked by an obelisk.

At the time of his death Thomas Peters had 6 surviving children, and 24 grandchildren. The eldest grandchild being the 19 year old Thomas Armytage, and the youngest being 2 month old Alfred Thomas Pillenger.

The  land in York Plains that Thomas Peters was granted on 1st January 1817 is shown on both these maps. The neighbouring properties were owned by: John Vincent, Joseph Wright, William Maum and Richard Kimberley.

BAGDAD 1851

 Thomas Peters’ only son, Richard Giles Peters (1812-1889) married Rebecca Cuffe in 1851 when he was 39 years old.
