Hobart 1810 - Mary Ann Holt daughter of Thomas & Mary Ann Peters

Mary Ann Holt (nee Peters) is recorded as being the mother of Frederick Adolphus Holt/Grant. The record of her marriage shows that she was living in the Parish of Bagdad. Her 1810 baptism record states that her parents are Thomas and Mary Ann Peters, and that her mother’s maiden name was Warrick. The George Armytage who is a witness at Mary Ann’s marriage is the husband of Elizabeth Armytage (nee Peters) who is known to be the daughter of Thomas Peters and Mary Ann [Ann] Peters (nee Hews). Elizabeth arrived in Van Diemen’s Land with her parents in 1804.  Sophia Peters is also a witness at Mary Ann’s wedding, and in 1829 Mary Ann had been a witness at the marriage of Charlotte Peters. Both Charlotte and  Sophia are also known to be the daughters of Thomas Peters and Mary Ann [Ann] Peters (nee Hews)

It would seem very likely that Mary Ann Holt (nee Peters) is one of the eight children reported to have been born to Thomas Peters and Mary Ann [Ann] Peters (nee Hews) and that the entry of  her mother’s maiden name as Warrick is an error.

“The Bagdad area was originally known as "The Vale of Bagdad" which extended from the foot of Constitution Hill in the north to Brighton in the south. …The first land grants were issued in Bagdad in 1813.” http://www.bagdadtashistory.com/

Mary Ann Peters  was born in Hobart Town in 1810, and baptised by Rev. Robert Knopwood on 7th November 1810. The baptismal record shows her parents to be Thomas Peters and Mary Ann Peters (nee Warrick).

Records indicate that Thomas and Mary Ann (Ann) Peters had 8 children. In the Australian records the mother’s name is entered variously as Ann (nee Hews), and Mary Ann (nee Warrick - in the cases of daughter Mary Ann and son Richard Giles). Their children were:

Elizabeth Peters (1801 - 1874) - born in England. (Her husband George Armytage is a witness at Mary Ann’s marriage)

Martha Peters 1804–1808 (She is long deceased by the time Mary Ann marries in 1832.)

Charlotte Peters 1806–1869 (Mary Ann is a witness at her marriage in 1829 to Francis Flexmore Jnr). SEE Image below.
