Frederick Adolphus Grant and Ellen Bridget Gorman were married on 28 June 1861 in St Clement’s Church of England, Yass. At that time they were living in the Kangiara locality - 30 km NW of Yass and 19 km NE of Binalong.

The marriage record states that Ellen was 20 years old, and that she had been born in New South Wales. Ellen’s mother’s name is given as Elizabeth Saunders.

Research revealed that Ellen’s father was Patrick Gorman, as per the birth record shown right.  A number of the earlier birth records of Ellen’s own children record the mother’s name as ‘Bridget’. Her grave is marked with the name Ellen B. Grant. Ellen’s death certificate states that she was 72, and that she was born in Dapto. Dapto and Yallah are adjoining suburbs of Wollongong, New South Wales. When Ellen’s daughter Mary was born in 1867, the year following the accidental death of her 16 month old son Charles, the birth was registered in Wollongong.

Records show that Patrick and Elizabeth (nee Sanders/Saunders) Gorman settled in the Yallah area when they arrived from Ireland in 1834.

Frederick and Ellen Grant settled in the Harden-Murrumburrah area and raised a large family.
