In 1931 Margaret Jane Grant moved in from the West to live at 11 Hardgrave Rd. West End, Brisbane. Her son Thomas Douglas, and three daughters, Margaret (‘Con’), Mary (‘Dig’), and Reine lived with her.

On 19th January 1932 Margaret Constance married Arthur William Easey. A son Darrell Lester was born later that year. The family lived in Brisbane in the suburbs of Kedron, Greenslopes and Camp Hill.

On 24 November 1932 ‘Doug’ Grant married Lousia May Frost. The couple continued to live at 11 Hardgrave Rd, and Doug worked as a butcher. They had a son Bernard Douglas, who was known as Brian.

In 1934, just prior to her death, Margaret Jane moved from 11 Hardgrave St with ‘Dig’ and Reine to 170 Boundary St. West End. They were joined by Florence and Edna. Thomas Henry Grant had also moved in from the West and was living at 170 Boundary St. at the time of his death in 1936.

About 1940 Edna married Kenton Thomas Cameron. Their only child, Margaret was born 15th May 1947. The family home was established at 71 Kent Rd Wooloowin. This was Margaret’s home until her death in 2009.

By 1943 Bernadine’s eldest son ’Lex’ (22) had left Barcaldine and was living at 170 Boundary St. with his aunt Mary Doreen (Dig) Grant.

In the early 1940s ‘Doug’ returned to work again in Wyandra. After several years the family moved back to Brisbane and lived in 18 Blakeney St West End. (A couple of blocks from 170 Boundary St.)

Around 1949 Bernadine left Barcaldine and moved to Brisbane with her three youngest children Noel (23) Celestine (21) and Kerry (11). They lived at 170 Boundary St. until the late 1950s when they moved to 34 Amelia St Coorparoo. Bernadine lived in Coorparoo until her death on 17 May 1966.

The six Grant sisters all lived in the Brisbane area as adults. They, and their brother ‘Doug’ remained very close.

The Grant’s house, (at 170 Boundary Rd. West End), used to be a couple of doors to the city-side of the Kurilpa Library. I have been told by local residents that it was “a high set Queenslander with lots of front steps” and that was moved out of the area after it was bought.
